Christ Our Hope In Life And Death
Sometimes God reminds us of his comfort when we do not realize how badly we need it. In January of 2020, the songwriting team at Getty Music put the finishing touches on their first joint collaboration. It was a rallying cry of hope, a reminder that because Jesus has conquered sin, Satan, and the grave, we can face the future with confidence. The songwriters looked to the centuries-old Heidelberg Catechism for inspiration and found the sturdy biblical truth that Christ himself is our comfort in life and in death. He "holds our days within his hand." Nothing takes place "apart from his command." He "holds our faith when fears arise."
Little did this team of writers know that in just a few weeks, the world would face a pandemic of epic proportions and we would need to sing these truths more than ever. The virus circled the globe, leaving gloom and destruction in its wake. Yet, for all who trust in Christ, no disease could leave us hopeless or conquer our confidence. Though we face grief and loss, our song remains the same. The grave will not have the last word. We will rise to meet the Lord. Sin and death will be destroyed. And we will feast in endless joy, when Christ is ours forevermore. That is why, even through the trials of the last year, we still sing "Hallelujah"—because Christ is our hope in life and death.
