When the apostle Paul speaks of "mystery," he refers to what was once hidden but now is clearly revealed. The mystery of our faith, veiled for centuries yet now put on full display, is "Christ in you, the hope of glory" (Col 1:27). Christ himself--his person and his work--is the centerpiece of God’s revelation to us. The story of Scripture culminates in him. Our salvation flows from him. Our life, joy, hope, and peace--all of it is fixed on Christ, the mystery now made known.

So it is fitting to call one another to "Come behold the wondrous mystery." We look in awe at the beauty of the incarnation, the one who is the theme of heaven’s praises robed in frail humanity. We exult in Christ’s perfect life: no trace nor stain of sin. We marvel to see the Lord himself hanging upon the tree in the stead of ruined sinners. And then we rejoice at the empty tomb: "What a foretaste of deliverance, how unwavering our hope." This wondrous mystery--Christ’s birth, life, death, and resurrection for us--will be our song for all eternity.
