Tearfund Latest Prayer Points
Dear Friend,
‘Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’ And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’ I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”’ (Luke 11:5–10)
This passage in Luke follows on directly from Jesus teaching us how to pray (the Lord’s Prayer) and calls us to persist in praying. To keep knocking on the door.
This week, as we consider the continuing conflict in Ukraine, ongoing food insecurity in Nigeria and the seemingly relentless plastic pollution problem in Côte d'Ivoire (and around the world), let us be encouraged to not give up in praying even when difficult contexts are persistent. Let our prayers be persistent too!

Pray with us
Lord God, we come before you once again today and lift up your name. You are mighty, holy, omnipotent God and we are asking, seeking and knocking. Thank you that you have promised to hear our prayers. Please will you intervene in each of the places that we are bringing before you today. Will you move in power to bring change that is beyond what humans can do.
Lord God, may we be salt and light in this world as we follow you. Let us hear your voice and let us be all that you have called us to be as the body of Christ. Amen.

Plastics in Côte d'Ivoire
Côte d'Ivoire's economic capital produces over 288 tonnes of waste each day, according to UNICEF. Even though the production, selling and ownership of plastic bags was banned in 2013, today, the law is hardly enforced in the country, which produces over 200,000 tonnes of plastic bags every year. Annual plastics production has more than doubled in 20 years to 460 million tonnes. Pray that appropriate measures are taken against plastic pollution.

Food insecurity in Nigeria
The food security and nutrition situation across Nigeria is deeply concerning. People who have been affected by continued conflict, climate change, inflation and rising food prices, as well as vulnerable displaced populations and returnees, are struggling to get enough food. Pray for the estimated 25 million people in the country who are currently food insecure.

Ukraine Kherson dam update
Last month, we asked for prayers after the Ukraine dam breach. Praise God we were able to support our local church partners with critical funds to buy pumps and generators. They continued their evacuation efforts until water levels receded. Pray for resources for the many families whose homes have been severely damaged. Ask for safety and shelter for those who have been displaced.

Prayer Diary: displaced in the Democratic Republic of Congo
Each week, Tearfund's Prayer Diary will focus on a specific topic or country to help guide your prayers for global issues and people living in poverty.
Sunday 9 July - Saturday 15 July
Millions of people have been forced to flee their homes because of violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Tearfund’s local church partners are helping displaced people to become more independent through farming, and supporting them with sanitation and clean water. This week, pray that more traumatised families will get the support they need and for peace to come to the country.
