Tearfund Latest Prayer Points

Dear Friend,

‘Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose you have a friend, and you go to him at midnight and say, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread; a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have no food to offer him.’ And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’ I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.

“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”’ (Luke 11:5–10)

This passage in Luke follows on directly from Jesus teaching us how to pray (the Lord’s Prayer) and calls us to persist in praying. To keep knocking on the door.

This week, as we consider the continuing conflict in Ukraine, ongoing food insecurity in Nigeria and the seemingly relentless plastic pollution problem in Côte d'Ivoire (and around the world), let us be encouraged to not give up in praying even when difficult contexts are persistent. Let our prayers be persistent too!

Pray with us

Lord God, we come before you once again today and lift up your name. You are mighty, holy, omnipotent God and we are asking, seeking and knocking. Thank you that you have promised to hear our prayers. Please will you intervene in each of the places that we are bringing before you today. Will you move in power to bring change that is beyond what humans can do.

Lord God, may we be salt and light in this world as we follow you. Let us hear your voice and let us be all that you have called us to be as the body of Christ. Amen.
