Tearfund Latest Prayer Points

As we face a world that can seem overwhelmingly full of massive challenges and sorrows, we have the comfort of knowing that God is bigger. That he has the answers. And as we approach him and ask him, the Bible tells us that he will generously give us wisdom (James 1:5). What a source of peace that we are not left to rely only on our (frail and limited) human understanding, but that we have access to God’s limitless wisdom!

Wisdom to pray, to act and to lead

As we approach our prayers for some of the difficult and distressing issues facing people around the world this week, join us in praying for wisdom. We ask God to guide us in how to pray, those who are responding in how to take action, and those in leadership to make decisions that unify and restore relationships within society wherever they are.

Wisdom for King Charles

Ahead of his coronation on Saturday, let’s also take the opportunity to pray for God’s wisdom for King Charles.

Pray with us

Almighty God, full of wisdom and grace, you who love frail humanity so deeply, please be near to us as we pray.

Grant us wisdom to know how to bring before you the things that cause us fear, distress and sorrow. Grant all those responding to difficult situations the wisdom to know how to be most effective in bringing comfort and practical help to those in need. Grant all those who lead the wisdom to make decisions that will bring unity, protection, peace and prosperity for all people.

We pray your wisdom for King Charles III for as long as he may be monarch. We ask that in his position as a leader, he would seek your face as King and ruler over all. We pray that he would always seek to act in service of the people, and that he would find blessing as he does so.

In your name we pray, amen.

Pray for the world

Most of Asia has been experiencing a severe heatwave, with record temperatures in April. Pray for protection and relief from the heat. Ask God to bless the work of our partners and the local church to promote activities to combat the climate crisis. Lift up farmers as they face potential droughts and crop failures.

More than 100 people have lost their lives due to flooding and landslides caused by heavy rains in the western part of Rwanda. Houses and other infrastructures have been damaged, along with crops and farms which the majority of the population rely on for survival. Pray for comfort for those who have lost their loved ones. Pray for protection, and the right assistance for those who have been affected. Pray for farmers as the rains are affecting their livelihoods.

Sudan is home to a very large number of refugees many from Eritrea, South Sudan and Ethiopia. Some had fled violence in their own country and cannot go back. Now, due to the escalation of violence in Sudan, many refugees and Sudanese people are trying to flee the country into neighbouring countries such as the Central African Republic, South Sudan, Chad and Ethiopia. Pray for safe passage for them, that they will find welcome. And pray for an end to the fighting.

Each week, Tearfund’s Prayer Diary will focus on a specific topic or country to help guide your prayers for global issues and people living in poverty.

You can use it to pray daily throughout the week, or just use the single prayer in the introduction which covers the theme. Alternatively, you could take time to pray the whole week’s prayer suggestions in one go.

Sunday 7 - Saturday 13 May

Over the last few years, the people of Lebanon have been pushed to crisis point. The Beirut port explosion in 2020 devastated the city, and the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns pushed people further into poverty. Accusations of state corruption have led to regular protests. A new government was formed last year, but it’s too early to see if this has changed anything. This week, lift up struggling families who have experienced a huge reduction in income and prospects over the last four years.
