Scripture Union Scotland: Dundee & Angus Prayer News
Hello!
Our Senior Connect Group met recently and looked at Psalm 63. Everyone
had a different favourite part—for one the idea of God with them through
the watches of the night, for another that God’s love is better than life, and
finally that we can cling to God whilst resting under the shadow of his wings.
It was a reminder of the richness of God’s word and how the same text
speaks differently to each one of us. I wonder what God would say to you
through Psalm 63 today?
Thank you for your prayers for our February Regional
Weekend, which went very well. It was a joy to see young
people who had never been with us before, as well as
welcoming back those who come regularly to SU
ministries. Our young leaders continue to develop well
and take increasing responsibility, including the flour and
wrap-a-leader games which were very well
organised and delivered by Amy!
Study Camp during the Easter break was also very
successful and we spent six days with a lovely group of S4-6
young people at Lendrick Muir doing a mix of study and
activities. In the evenings we looked at Psalms which
expressed different emotions and discussed how these might
speak to us today. Please pray that God would use the Bible
shared with all the children and young people who attend a
residential event with us this year. Pray they’d be
strengthened in faith, challenged to walk more closely with
God, or come to trust in Jesus for the first time.
I am so grateful to God for the encouragement of your interest
in, and prayers for, the work. We have seen many answers to
prayer in the last few months, so please do keep praying! In particular, we
are always in need of more volunteers and it has been a joy to see God
raising up people recently—let’s boldly ask for more!

SCHOOLS WORK UPDATE
During Feb and Mar we
delivered Bible Alive to P5-
7 in Ferryden PS. As always, the children were very well engaged and
enjoyed the sessions. The timing worked very well as a number of the
children attend the 10:10 youth club in Ferryden (named after John 10:10)
and joined us at the Regional Weekend in Feb with leaders Pete, Meg, Helen
and Shona. The group were very well integrated into the wider group and it
was a pleasure to have them. Do remember the 10:10 club in your prayers!
Just before the Easter holidays I was able to join the team from Downfield
Mains Parish Church for two days delivering Easter Journey workshops to
P6s from Downfield, Ardler and Sidlaw View primaries. Volunteers joined
together from various churches and from Teen Ranch to share the Easter
story in an interactive journey through the temple, the upper room where
Jesus washed the disciples’ feet, the Passover table, the darkness of
Gethsemane, and a movie theatre showing the crucifixion scenes from the
Miracle Maker resource. Staff and pupils were all very enthusiastic about
their time– with one staff member even specifically requesting the P6 class
so she could come! The following week Matty and Anne from Hillbank
Evangelical joined me in delivering a classroom version of the resource to
two classes in Rosebank PS. Owing to a high Muslim population in the
school, we adapted the resource so that everyone could participate fully,
whilst also clearly communicating what Christians believe about Easter.
Please pray for the impact on all the children and teachers who attended
Easter events.
Following the Easter break, Bible Alive started with P5/6 in Borrowfield PS.
We have not yet managed to book a Dundee school this session—please
pray we will be successful in lining at least one up in 2023!
There is always more scope for SU Groups and it’s not too late in the school
year to start! In May we have four new groups beginning! One in Strathmore
PS, Forfar with mum Ruth, another in Southmuir PS, Kirriemuir with
volunteers Corinne and Frances. And finally, a successful Easter SU Group
at Invergowrie sees the restart of two groups there. Additionally, an existing
Christian group in Webster’s High also joined the SU family! Please pray on
for Baldragon where senior management have approved the group but a
room and date are proving elusive, and for Braeview Academy which hopes
to start soon. Please remember also our existing groups:
• Harris Academy—S1-3 group led by student Zoë on Mon lunch
• Harris Academy—S4-6 group with pupils Samuel + Elsie on Mon lunch
• Downfield PS—with Paul from Downfield Mains CofS on Weds lunch
• Ferryden PS—with Marion and Sylvia on Thurs after school
• Webster’s High—led by church leaders Martin and Corinne Bakker
SUMMER PLANS
I’ll be joining LeadUP in June -
leadership training for S6-age 25.
Participants attend a week long training at Alltnacriche, Aviemore, before
serving on a summer event, and returning in August for a review weekend.
Trinity Church plan a Family Fun Day on 8 July as part of their outreach.
We’re piloting an outreach to the Pentlands area of Dundee, based at City
Church. Friary Holiday Club will be for those in P1-7 from 10-14 July for a
science themed holiday club, and families will be invited to join us for a hot
lunch. We’ll also have a couple of evening events for secondary age young
people. Please pray as we seek to advertise this event– that we’d be
successful in reaching our target audience.
I’m leading a Creative Arts Primary camp
from 29 Jul-5 Aug at Gowanbank. Children
will immerse themselves in their choices of
art, baking, calligraphy, music and
needlecraft. If you know anyone in P5-7 who
would enjoy this event please let them
know! Our Holiday Sponsorship Fund is
available to help with the cost in a discreet
manner. More info at
suholidays.org.uk/ca5.
Please pray for more bookings, for cooks and at least one more male leader.

Work Training
Would you value training as you seek to share Jesus with
children? Perhaps you share faith with children in a formal
school or church setting, or informally as a parent/grandparent
or friend of the family. We can all benefit from learning more
about how to share our faith with the next generation!
Join us for the morning on Sat 10 June where we’ll have a variety
of different topics for you to engage with, and lots of coffee and
cake! Contact Susie to register.
