Compass Christian Centre May Prayer Points
Dear Friend,
“And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.” Ephesians 2: 1-3
It never ceases to amaze me what God has done for us. The deeper I get into His word I realise why we should live for Him fully in all that we do. We do not have the option to re-write His word and make it seem more palatable to modern society.
In our verses above from Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, we are reminded that we were dead. Do you ever think about that? We may have moved around, interacted, and functioned in various kinds of things, but we were dead! A dead person cannot suddenly choose to be alive, and in the case of humanity, there is nothing we could have done to make ourselves come alive spiritually. The One who created life, who holds life and transforms life is the only One who could have changed our circumstances. It is only God who could have redeemed us and brought us to that place of being alive again. But here’s the thing we need to continually remember, He did absolutely nothing to tarnish this relationship in the first place, it was always us, yet it cost Him so much to bring us back to Himself. You see, death separates us from life, but He is the One who unites us with life again.
In Christ alone who took on flesh, fullness of God in helpless babe.
This gift of love and righteousness, scorned by the ones He came to save.
Till on that cross as Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid, here in the death of Christ I live.
As we move forward from Easter, we do so in the understanding that He requires us to be witnesses. He gave us the Holy Spirit and power to be those witnesses. We need to step out into a world of hurt and confusion to bring His light, His truth, and His saving grace. Thomas Merton once wrote the following words, “In a world of noise, confusion, and conflict it is necessary that there be places of silence, inner discipline and peace. In such places love can blossom”. I wonder if Mr Merton would mind me re-writing his quote?
In a world of noise, confusion, and conflict it is necessary that we speak the name of Jesus – for in that name we find love and salvation and life! AMEN
PRAYER POINTS:
* May will be a month of school groups. Please pray that as we welcome these kids and spend time with them, they will all leave knowing that there is a God who loves and cares for them. As the schools educate them and prepare them for life, we can share what life in Christ looks like which is so much better.
* Please pray that God will bring to us some volunteers who would be able to help us with various jobs around the site as well as helping with groups.
* Please remember Simon, Heather, Robyn and Nigel as they juggle working with guests as well as keeping up to date with all physical jobs.
* As prices across the board continue to rise, please pray that God will continue to meet our needs. We need wisdom as we try to meet all of our costs, yet not be charging our guests too much.
* Pray that Compass will continue to make an impact on the lives of those who come to stay with us. No matter what age they are, the most important message they will hear is the message of Jesus Christ. Our God can do ALL things even bring individuals to salvation within this place.
