Tearfund Latest Prayer Points
Dear Friend,
‘It was a historic moment – a time to remember. Just as the leaders of different denominations came together to raise one voice for the sake of peace among the people of God – it was extraordinary!... People were so excited and there was happiness everywhere!
‘Everyone in the entire country – the government, the women, the young people, the children… We all came together… Everyone knelt down to pray for peace. To pray that all may be one. To pray that this nation can become one. That is how beautiful it was!’
Martha Adut is a young South Sudanese peacebuilder and women's rights campaigner who was invited to participate in the ecumenical peace visit led by Pope Francis, Archbishop Welby and Moderator Greenshields to South Sudan earlier this year. (You might remember that back in January we asked you to pray ahead of the visit.) Martha spoke to us about the jubilant, prayer-filled atmosphere in Juba during the visit, and also the urgent need for progress towards peace in the country. Watch the video here.
Her account of the situation is so uplifting and encouraging, and this week we are praising God and praying more for the peacebuilding work in South Sudan. You can also read a story of radical forgiveness that we’re sharing to help inspire your prayers.
Plastic Free July
We’ve also seen answers to prayer in the plastics treaty negotiations and we’re looking ahead to Plastic Free July with a prayer update and this week’s Prayer Diary.

Pray with us
Scripture encourages us that a good time to pray is all the time, and that we can come to God, in the Spirit, and pray in any way about everything.
‘And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.’ (Ephesians 6:18)
Thank you for praying with us. We pray that you will be blessed and see answers to your prayers this week.

Unity in South Sudan

Pray for protection for families in Ethiopia who are hungry. Pray that, through the church, those who are impacted most by the drought will have their urgent needs met. Ask God to bless the training where people are learning skills to start new livelihoods and build resilience in difficult times. Lift up Tearfund and our church partners as they support communities hit hardest by the effects of climate change.

Earlier this month, we saw answered prayer and a growing momentum for justice at the UN plastics treaty talks. Watch this short video for a full update and for ways you can continue to pray.
As we invite supporters to take action with us for Plastic Free July, pray that many people will be inspired to reduce their plastic and to learn about the plastic crisis this month. Find out more (and how you could get involved) at tearfund.org/plasticfreejuly.

Prayer Diary: faith that moves mountains
Each week, Tearfund's Prayer Diary will focus on a specific topic or country to help guide your prayers for global issues and people living in poverty.
Sunday 2 July - Saturday 8 July
Our world has an urgent rubbish problem, with mountains of plastic pollution dumped or burnt around the world. But Jesus tells us that even the smallest amount of faith can move mountains. So this week we’re praying with faith and joining millions of people who are taking part in Plastic Free July (plasticfreejuly.org) to bring an end to this rubbish problem and all the harm it is doing to our global neighbours.
