Tearfund Latest Prayer Points

Dear Friend,

Psalm 24:1 tells us that ‘The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.’ Throughout scripture, we see God’s great love for this world and with Monday being World Environment Day, we would love to start our prayers this week by focusing on creation.

The climate is in crisis. Record-breaking storms, severe droughts and rising temperatures are wreaking havoc across the globe and the most severe impacts, at this stage, are being felt by people living in poverty. Often, they are also the people who have contributed the least to the problem. People like Nsimire in DRC are facing the devastating consequences. Read her story here.

Both as people who love God and his creation and as those who care deeply about seeing people released from poverty, please will you join us in praying for a change in the policies, practices, systems, structures and attitudes that are at the root of the climate problem.

Pray with us

Join us in this prayer shared by our Advocacy Team:

Lord God, we thank you for the beauty of your creation that we see around us. We praise you for the work of your hands: the sun, moon and stars, each flower and tree, the rivers and oceans, each animal and insect and every intricate human face. Thank you that the earth is yours, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.

Our hearts are grieved at the disasters which have happened as a result of the climate crisis. Father God, comfort those who have been affected and whose hearts are broken today.

We pray that world leaders would act on climate change together, working hard to find solutions and take urgent action.

Lord God, may your church have a deeper understanding of its role in caring for creation and lead the way in taking action. May there be unity of purpose across the church, and may we each stand up and play our role. Amen.
