Tearfund Latest Prayer Points

Right now, the news is full of conflict around the world and, in Tanzania, an outbreak of the deadly Marburg Virus Disease has been declared. But we believe God hears our prayers for peace and healing.

Thank you for joining us again this week as we come before God with these situations and trust him to act.

Peace

Following our month of prayer in December, we would love for you to continue praying with us for peace in places of conflict. Specifically this week, our teams in Iraq and in Mali have asked for your prayers.

Healing

In January, you prayed with us for God to intervene in the unfolding Ebola situation in Uganda. We saw a miraculous answer to prayer at that time with the virus not spreading as had been expected. Now, we are asking you to join us in prayer and faith again – this time for Tanzania.

Pray with us

This week we’re starting with a prayer inspired by Ephesians 3 to encourage our faith as we lift up situations around the world.

Father God, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, we kneel before you in prayer and ask that you will strengthen us with power through your Spirit, so that Christ may dwell in our hearts through faith. May we be rooted and established in love, and have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that we may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Father God, we come before you knowing that you are able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to your power that is at work within us. To you, Lord, be glory in the church throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

Pray for the world

Ask God to bring peace in Iraq, particularly in areas affected by violence and conflict. Pray for safety and protection for people caught in these situations. Pray also for the success of Tearfund's work to promote peace and reconciliation in these regions.

The security situation continues to deteriorate in the Menaka region of Mali with clashes between armed groups and attacks on civilians. This situation has led to many people being forced to flee their homes to find safety. More than 30,000 displaced people are now in overcrowded houses or makeshift camps. There is an urgent need for help to provide drinking water, food, medicine and shelter. Pray that the needs of those fleeing conflict will be met.

Tanzania has declared an outbreak of Marburg Virus Disease (MVD). MVD is an extremely dangerous disease caused by the same family of viruses as Ebola and is clinically similar. Pray that God will protect people against MVD and heal those who have been infected. Pray that the virus will not spread to other regions.
