Tearfund Latest Prayer Points
Dear Friend,
|
‘Then a voice came from the throne, saying: “Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, both great and small!” Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: “Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory!’ (Revelation 19:5–7)
We may not be completely sure of what the vision set out by the writer of Revelation means in its fullness, but the overwhelmingly wonderful reminder is that our Lord God Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice in that perspective as we approach the throne with our prayers.
As the news this week has been full of heatwaves, the climate crisis and conflict, we are encouraged that we can pray, asking God to move in ways that are beyond what we can achieve in our own strength.
Restoration, rebuilding and resolution
Today, we’re asking you to join us in lifting up the uncertain situation in Lebanon, where repeated attempts to elect a president (a role traditionally reserved in Lebanese parliament for a Maronite Christian) have failed. We pray for peace and a resolution there and we’re sharing an uplifting story of peacebuilding through young people building friendships.
We’re also continuing to pray for those affected by the flooding in India and for millions of people in Mali who are in a terrible situation because of conflict.
Thank you for praying with us. Your prayers matter.

Pray for political and economic stability in Lebanon and an end to the deadlock which currently exists. Lebanon has been without a president for a number of months. Pray for the raising up and appointment of a wise leader who can govern with integrity for the benefit of all.
Read this uplifting story of how a Tearfund partner’s programme is helping young people in Lebanon become peacemakers in their community by building friendships.

Increased humanitarian needs in Mali

Pray for the situation in Mali which continues to deteriorate as conflict drives displacement and increased humanitarian needs – particularly in the regions bordering Burkina Faso and Niger. Of a total population of 21.7 million, almost 13 million are affected by the crisis in some way. Almost 1.5 million people have been displaced from their homes and over 8 million people are in need of some humanitarian assistance.

Flooding in India

|
Last week, we shared an update on our website about the flooding in India. Please pray for shelter and resources for people who have lost loved ones or have been displaced from their homes by the flooding – especially for those who are living in slums and have been particularly affected. Ask for swift delivery of repairs to prevent any further damage.

Prayer Diary: still time to deliver

Each week, Tearfund's Prayer Diary will focus on a specific topic or country to help guide your prayers for global issues and people living in poverty.
Sunday 23 July - Saturday 29 July
Last year, Tearfund’s Time to Deliver campaign called on the UK Government to influence other wealthy nations to keep their promises and collectively deliver $100 billion a year in climate finance to low-income countries. This money will help to reimburse people living in poverty for costs from climate change.
Earlier this month, we learned that the UK may possibly be climbing down on its own promise to commit £11.6 billion to that overall total, but after a rapid joint petition the Government has promised that it will set out its plan in September on how it will deliver the finance. It’s time to pray that the Government keeps this promise too!
