I am writing to you today with a genuine smile on my face, because the most effective campaigning force in favour of a fashion watchdog is not me, or you or any of the political experts in the Transform Trade team...
It's a group of hand-crafted fashionable dogs - made by people just like you.
The 1000 dogs campaign <https://transform-trade.us6.list-manage.com/track/click?u=742651e2cb92ae3a9ca13a3d9&id=5a1d532786&e=952e550679> is our call to get hand-made dogs on the desk of every MP to convince them to support a fashion watchdog.
A fashion watchdog is one of the steps we need for fairer fashion – it would stop brands getting away with cancelling orders with factories and delaying payment by months, all of which impact the working conditions and wages of the people who make our clothes.
It really is working
Some said we were barking up the wrong tree with this idea but the responses we’ve had back from MPs so far suggest otherwise.
While it can take a lot of emails to get the attention of an MP, we've found that just one hand-crafted dog can result in a much more personal response - and the stats are looking EXCEPTIONAL.
So far 22 MPs have received hand crafted dogs (that we know about) and 2 have since pledged their support. That's almost a 10% success rate for something that is really hard to get - the on-record support of an MP.
So what do we need? You might have guessed it... more dogs.
In the next two months we want as many MPs as possible to receive dogs - we need to keep momentum building before Parliament breaks for summer in July.
There are 3 steps to get involved:
1. 2. Make your dog – you could knit, paper mache, felt, sew…from the creativity we’ve seen so far the possibilities are endless
3. Personalise our template letter to accompany your dog – then print it off and pop everything in the post
