Sanctuary Foundation: Drama At Downing Street
Dear Friends
Thank you to everyone who supported our Sudan Pledge. We took our petition to Downing Street yesterday with Muhanad and Algali who are Sudanese refugees to the UK, Tania who is a refugee from Ukraine and Veronika who works supporting refugees in Buckinghamshire.
In an act of solidarity we planned to present the petition together. Unfortunately our little team was caught in the middle of a major incident that you may have seen on the news. Just minutes after we came through the gate to Downing Street a man drove his car into it. The police treated the event as a terror threat and we were evacuated to a safe place.
Unfortunately we were not then able to deliver the petition. What we recognised was that this was just a tiny taste of what millions of people are facing in Sudan right now, with a fully militarized civil war taking place. It showed us just how urgent and important it is for the government to listen to our petition and open safe and legal routes for those who have escaped terror and war.
