Creation day One.

Something to read

Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

- Genesis 1:3-5.

Reflect

Each morning, the sun rises, and each evening, it sets. How incredible that the rhythm of life at the beginning of creation is still the one all inhabitants of the Earth experience.

Reflect for a moment on the rhythm of life and the enduring promise of sunrise. Consider the wonder and beauty of creation, which we have the joy of inhabiting.

Respond

The people we will read about in this devotional live closer to the Earth than many of us do. These people are the ones experiencing the strongest effects of the climate crisis.

Read Florence's story and consider what it means to live in right relationship with the Earth.

How can you ensure a light touch on the Earth’s resources and live in closer communion with creation?

Prayer

Giver of life, thank you for the light of each day, and for your mercy, new every morning. Tune us into the rhythm of your will, renewing, restoring and releasing creation, so we may be co-creators with you. Amen.
