Backing the underdog.

Something to read

The Lord of hosts is exalted by justice, and the Holy God shows himself holy by righteousness

- Isaiah 5:16 from full reading Isaiah 5:15-24.

Something to think about

I don’t know about you, but when I’m watching a film, reading a book, or watching a football match, I always cheer for the underdog.

There’s something great about witnessing a non-league team made up of plumbers, teachers and policemen beating a star-studded, billionaire-funded football team!

In much the same way, God delights in the underdog. But more than cheering them on from the side line, he enters the pitch and takes their side, bringing about the downfall of the proud, arrogant, boastful and those who prosper from injustice.

Isaiah offers a word of warning to the arrogant and the unjust: ignore the underdogs at your peril.

Something to do

Find out about our campaigns for justice

Something to pray

God of the underdog and lowly, we pray that those with great authority, wealth and power play their part in seeking justice for the innocent and see the role they have to play to end poverty.

We praise you for those who use their resources and wealth for good.

Help us to see what we can give to those less fortunate than us and give us wisdom to see what we can change in our day to day life to encourage justice.

Amen.

The reflections this week are by Cynan Llwyd, Head of Christian Aid Wales (maternity cover) at the time of writing.
