Safety.

Something to read

... they shall live in safety, and no one shall make them afraid.

- Ezekiel 34:28.

Something to think about

It is easy to take for granted things that make us feel safe. Feeling safe can be connected to our most basic needs being met - we are sheltered, we are warm, we are comforted. A baby feels safe in the arms of a caregiver. As adults we feel safe when we are connected to people who know us and love us. Familiar settings, objects and routines can give us a sense of security too.

Around the world today violent conflict and the effects of the climate crisis threaten the safety of individuals and communities. Lives are upturned, homes destroyed, families separated. In Ezekiel, God promises freedom from fear to those who have been let down by the systems and authorities who promised to protect them.

God desires that the survivors of conflict, crisis and oppression should know what it is to live in safety. How can we be part of God's work? What can we do to ensure that no one needs to live in fear?

Something to pray

God you are our refuge. You promise us safety and freedom from fear. Be with those whose safety is threatened. Comfort those who are afraid. Amen.
