Bible Society: Reasons To Believe In The Power Of The Bible

‘I was a deputy head in a secondary school and I was facing this big change of going into ministry. I like to have a plan, everything all mapped out for three to five years. Coming into ministry, it’s very difficult to have a plan.

‘I had to find a training placement. My family and I had just been to Spring Harvest and had just had this word from Psalm 46.10, “Be still and know that I am God”. I heard it as a definite command, yet there was a sense of release and relax in that.

‘My natural inclination was to find a place myself, but God said, “Be still” and leave it to him, and that in that, I would see that he was God. Then Covid hit and it got even harder to find a training place. I had handed in my resignation. It would have been a real panic for me, but that panic was lessened by this verse.

‘Every time that natural inclination to organise came in, I was reminded of that verse and let God have it. And he did have it. I got a perfect training place and it’s been a real blessing for me, the family and for the church too.

‘From that, I have let go a lot more than I used to. I can now stand back and see what God is doing. That’s been remarkable.’
