Be Still and Know - 'They Will Thank God'

(from www.premierchristianradio.com)

Welcome to our daily devotional. We hope you will be blessed by Dr Micha Jazz's inspiring thoughts every Monday - Friday.

2 Corinthians 9:11 NLT

'Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.'

A friend of mine who works for themselves, and who invested large amounts of time seeking to build up a business, suddenly discovered the reality of HMRC and income tax. They registered and sought to generate their tax account, albeit after having survived for some years on meagre wages and the support of family. Their initial enquiry led to a frightening demand for money they did not have. Their immediate response from fear was to despair and decide that they could never afford to earn enough to both live and pay taxes. They considered declaring themselves bankrupt and abandoning the fledgling business they were building, no longer able to see how it would ever prove successful.

After several phone calls, they spoke with a reasonable lady, who was kind and helpful and encouraged my friend, saying they were earning well and that a payment plan could be established, which while demanding, would eventually smooth their way to building further financial success upon what they had achieved to date.

A generous attitude provided the encouragement to continue. My friend was grateful and rather than imploding found the resilience and hope to continue. Their gift, which will increasingly offer work to others, taxes for the country and enjoyment for many staff and customers alike, was nurtured through the generous attitude and advice of someone who chose to help and encourage rather than scold and punish. Every taxpayer is to be thanked for working to resource the needs of our nation, not regarded as someone who instinctively seeks to avoid contributing.

In this season of Thanksgiving, as an Oratory we review our own approach to earnings, as well as our plans to give generously. Our objective only to retain such finance that we need to live a simple life and to reinvest the rest in God’s global harvesting project.

QUESTION: Do your words and attitude exercise gratitude which in turn begets generosity?

PRAYER: May encouragement rise from my grateful heart and foster a generous investment into the lives of others.
