Living in the light

Something to read

He has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son

- Colossians 1:13 from the full reading Colossians 1: 9-14.

Something to think about

The amount of money the shepherd is willing to pay for sheep depends on the quality and pedigree of the sheep.

Football clubs pay huge amounts of money for players depending on their skills. But the amount God paid to purchase us didn’t depend on our pedigree!

God bought our freedom from ‘the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his Son’ through ‘his blood’ on the Cross (vv13-14).

Having been transferred from darkness into the kingdom of light, we are to live in the light of the one who transferred us as people of that kingdom and as his flock through his own power (v11).

Living in the light means living a life that pleases the Lord – a life of every good work. By living that kind of a life, we come to know and understand God better (v10).

Because it is to that kind of life we are ‘created in Christ Jesus...which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life’ (Ephesians 2:10).

Something to do

Make a list of the ‘every good work’ the Lord created you to do and is empowering you to do.

Something to pray

Thank you, Lord, for transferring me into your Kingdom of light. Empower me to live as a member of that Kingdom and make those good works you have prepared for me always obvious.

In your name. Amen.

Dydd Iau, Gorffennaf 26ain Darllen:

Colosiaid 1: 9-14.

I feddwl amdano: Mae’r swm y bydd bugail yn fodlon ei dalu am ddefaid yn dibynnu ar ansawdd a phurdeb pedigri y defaid. Fe fydd yna swm mawr yn cael ei dalu yn aml am drosglwyddo pêl droedwyr o un tîm i un arall yn dibynnu ar eu gallu, ond ni ddibynna’r pris a dala’r Arglwydd amdanom ddim ar ein gallu na’n pedigri!

Mae’r taliad yn un llawn yn ei waed (adn.14) ar y groes er mwyn i ni gael ein gwaredu ‘o afael y tywyllwch, a’n trosglwyddo i deyrnas ei annwyl Fab’ (adn. 13) Wedi ein trosglwyddo i’r gorlan olau honno yr ydym i fyw yng ngoleuni'r un a’n trosglwyddodd fel pobl ei deyrnas a’i braidd a chael ein nerthu ganddo i wneud hynny (adn. 11).

Mae byw yn y goleuni yn golygu byw bywyd sydd yn plesio’r Arglwydd - bywyd o weithredoedd da o bob math. Wrth fyw'r math hwnnw o fywyd fe ddeuwn i adnabod ac amgyffred Duw yn well (adn. 10) am mai i fywyd felly o weithredoedd da yr ydym ‘wedi ein creu yng Nghrist Iesu..., bywyd y mae Duw wedi ei drefnu inni o'r dechrau’ (Effesiaid 2:10).

I’w wneud:

Gwnewch restr o’r ‘gweithredoedd da o bob math’ mae’r Arglwydd wedi eich creu chi ar eu cyfer ac yn eich nerthu i’w cyflawni.

I’w weddïo:

O Arglwydd, diolch iti am fy symud i mewn i dy Deyrnas olau Di. Nertha fi i fyw fel aelod ohoni a gwna’r gweithredoedd da hynny sydd gen ti wedi eu paratoi ar fy nghyfer yn amlwg imi bob amser. Er mwyn dy Enw. Amen
