Bible Society: Reasons To Believe In The Power Of The Bible
‘About 10 years ago, I was very, very ill and the doctors couldn’t see how to treat me. I basically had two years at home confined to a wheelchair. I didn’t see anyone except my husband and girls. I slept and looked out of the window. I couldn’t even pick up a mug of coffee.
‘Through that time Psalm 63.5–8 became key to me. It says, “I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me.”
‘All I could do was read a few verses of the Bible and cling to them. My relationship with the Lord was so intense and real. It was like my food. God’s word became nourishing food to me.
‘It felt hard but I knew that God was with me in it, so I was OK. He brought me through it and I'm back to living an active life.
‘These verses are still very important now, however I feel about the pandemic. Everybody is fed up of it, aren’t they? But God is there looking after us and feeding us.
‘That difficult time for me turned out to be a rich time. God was doing something through that. As a family, we came out changed. Through the hard situations, God does bring good and fruitfulness.’
