Getty Music: HYMNS & DEVOTIONS FOR PASSION WEEK
It is Saturday. The body of Jesus has been laid to rest in a borrowed tomb. The chief priests and Pharisees seal the stone and set a guard in place (Matt 27:66). How useless their efforts would prove to be: the battle was over and victory was guaranteed. How do we know? Because Jesus has already spoken those monumental words: “It is finished” (John 19:30). He who knew no sin became sin for us (2 Cor 5:21). He bore our curse in his body on the tree (Gal 3:13). He was pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities (Isa 53:5). The Lamb has been slain, the Sacrifice has been offered, and the Mediator has stood in our place between heaven and earth.
Now we wait with expectation. Joseph of Arimathea’s tomb—“secure” as it might be (Matt 26:65)—is about to witness the greatest morning in history.
