Bible Society: Reasons To Believe In The Power Of The Bible
‘The passage that means the most to me is Jeremiah 29.11, which says, “I will bless you with a future full of hope – a future of success, not of suffering”.
‘In 2008 I decided to embark on my teaching career. It started really well, but in the second year of university it wasn’t where my heart was. I qualified and worked as a primary teacher for ten years. But in 2019, things started to go wrong. I felt unsupported by my head teacher. My lessons were deemed not to be up to standard. It was really horrible, and it got me down.
‘I ended up leaving teaching altogether, but I didn’t know what I was going to do. I didn’t have a job for a long time. My mum saw me going through this and she said, “I have been praying for you and you need to go into something that’s in line with your personality in terms of caring.”
‘I felt that being an occupational therapist would be what I wanted to do and now I’m training for that. It’s exciting. It feels right. Finally, I’m on the path that I’m meant to be on and that’s a huge relief. I just can’t wait. I want to make changes in people’s lives.
‘This verse is a reminder that whatever we decide, God is going to divert us. It gives me the comfort to know that if I’m experiencing negativity and turmoil, it’s not going to last forever because God’s plan is to give me happiness at the end. It doesn’t feel like that in the moment, but I know there’s a light at the end of the tunnel and I can keep going.’
