Daily Reading: 11 April

Everything created by God is good.
Something to read
For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, provided it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by God’s word and by prayer.
- 1 Timothy 4:1–5.
Something to think about
Every day somebody, somewhere seems to be telling us that something is bad for us, especially about food. It never ceases to amaze me how we follow so many different instructions as to how to eat properly, often in the pursuit of bodily improvement.
While we fuss over our food, people are dying of hunger. The planet is suffering thanks to our consumption. How thankful are we when it comes to our daily bread? Are we mindful of what we eat or do we stress over whether it is the right type superfood or has too much or too little of some nutrient?
Sometimes we get too caught up in worrying about what food contains or, indeed, what time we are supposed to eat it. We are so worried about what we're being told about eating, we forget to appreciate each mouthful of food and savour the flavours. We overlook the privilege of eating such a wide variety of foods.
Life is so often busied with rules and regulations about what we should and shouldn’t do we forget to value what we have.
Something to do
When you are eating today, chew each mouthful slowly. Savour what you have in your mouth and be thankful.
Something to pray
Bless to me, O God,
each thing mine eye sees.
Bless to me, O God,
each sound mine ear hears.
Bless to me, O God,
each odour that goes to my nostrils.
Bless to me, O God,
each taste that goes to my lips
each note that goes to my song,
each ray that guides my way,
each thing that I pursue.
(A Celtic prayer from the Carmina Gadelica)
