Daily Reading: 10 May
(from www.christianaid.org.uk)
Creation day two.
Something to read
And God said, ‘Let there be a dome in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.’ So God made the dome and separated the waters that were under the dome from the waters that were above the dome. And it was so. God called the dome Sky. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.
- Genesis 1: 6-8.
Reflect
In these verses, we read how God separates the waters and creates the sky. In Kenya, people pray for rain. Rose Katanu Jonathan has to walk 8km to collect water with her donkey. She says: ‘Fetching water takes me six hours because I am old and can’t walk very fast. The drought has been severe. We are suffering.’Rose is living with HIV and struggles to eat well because there isn’t enough water to grow crops. She is the sole carer for her six grandchildren.
Respond
Tell God in prayer how you feel when you read Rose’s story and hear media stories about the climate emergency. People are doing all they can to adapt. But rivers are still drying up. Prayer
Creator of the seas and sky,in this time of climate crisis, as we pour out our feelings, pour in your Spirit of hope and renew our resolve to work together to stop this climate crisis.Amen.
