Prayer Diary November 22 - 28

Dear Friends,

Let’s take another week to reflect on Psalm 27, but first, let me ask you a question. If you could ask God for one thing, what would that be?

I wonder how you answered. In Psalm 27 v 4, David, the Psalmist, says the one thing that he asks of the Lord is to dwell in His house all the days of his life. I don’t know about you, but my default is to ask the Lord to help me in a particular circumstance. Sometimes I might ask the Lord to help someone else. But, if I’m honest, it would be rare for me to make my number one request of God to be able to dwell in His presence all the days of my life. Too often other concerns crowd in. But notice there are two dimensions here-a present and a future one-and both give David a confidence in his current situation, which leads to a confident response:

'Then my head will be exalted

above the enemies who surround me;

at his sacred tent I will sacrificewith shouts of joy;

I will singand make musicto theLord.'

It effectively causes David to put his head above the parapet, so to speak, and to shout for joy and to sing and make music to the Lord. How bizarre is that? He’s being pursued by an army intent on killing him and yet he does this because he is so confident that the Lord is sovereignly in control. Maybe this is what we need to do too. Take time to dwell with the Lord, remembering that we will dwell with Him forever, and then to go confidently back into a world that so desperately needs Him. Let that confidence fuel our prayers this week as we pray for the lost world of sport.

Here are topics to help you pray for the world of sport this week:

Sunday 22nd November

Give thanks for the Train 1-2-1 resource <https://christiansinsport.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b5dff7e5e660179476871964d&id=b2c4a959de&e=020d4fe54e>

Give thanks for Christian sportspeople who have engaged with the Train 1-2-1 resource. Pray that they will commit to pray for three teammates, to stay in the lives by inviting them to train with them and being courageous to say something of Jesus as they train together.

Monday 23rd November

Pray for Para Track and Field Athletes

Please pray for Christians competing in elite para track and field continuing to face uncertainty around their season and training schedules. Give thanks for five female athletes who connected back in April and give thanks that they were able to meet again last week for an encouraging time of fellowship.

Tuesday 24th November

Give thanks for the Big Online Student event

Thank God that more than 200 students from over 40 university groups met online last Wednesday. Pray students were encouraged as they opened God’s word and shared stories of what groups and individuals have been doing in recent months. Pray that many would sign up for our New Year Training in January.

Wednesday 25th November

Give thanks for the Big Online Sports Quiz <https://christiansinsport.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b5dff7e5e660179476871964d&id=74a3ab092f&e=020d4fe54e>

Praise God that month by month many, who don’t yet know Christ, get to hear of the good news of Jesus through the sports quiz. Pray for boldness, for those who have invited teammates, to ask questions that enable them to point to the hope of the gospel.

Thursday 26th November

Give thanks for the European Webinar and Discussion on 'Anxiety Management, God and the Athlete'

Praise God for the clear presentation in last week’s webinar and for the follow-up discussions in language-specific groups. Give thanks for the 59 who attended and for the positive feedback received. Please pray ahead for part two which takes place tonight, which will be both practical and biblical.

Friday 27th November

Pray for the Student work in Wales

Thank God for the opportunity to meet University groups outdoors last week in Swansea and Cardiff. Pray that these students and others around the UK and Ireland would continue to commit to reaching university sport for Christ during these challenging times.

Saturday 28th November

Pray for the European Gathering

Please pray for plans to rearrange this biennial conference, which was due to be held in Germany in June 2020. This next term is crucial as we make decisions on the five options for running the conference (from entirely online to in-person). Pray for wisdom, sensitivity, and safety as we work through the options.
