Prayer Diary November 15 - 21

Dear Friends

Psalm 27 begins on a confident note: ‘The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life of who shall I be afraid?’ A few verses later, David, the Psalmist, speaks of his contentment and rest in the Lord. Yet, a couple of verses further on it seems there is a change of tone in the Psalmists’ words. ‘Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger…Do not reject me or forsake me!’ But rather than being the rant of a man who has lost his way, these are the reflections of someone wrestling out the implications of his faith in God. It is such a relief to read the range of emotions expressed in the Psalms and likewise, to know that we can wrestle out our fears as we talk to the creator of the universe! Amid these challenging times, let us trust the Lord, our light and salvation and let’s pray that many in the world of sport come to trust Him too.

Here are topics to help you pray for the world of sport this week:

Sunday, 15th November

Pray for the new Train 1-2-1 resource <https://christiansinsport.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b5dff7e5e660179476871964d&id=d13f0e3537&e=020d4fe54e>

Give thanks for this brand-new training resource designed to encourage Christian sportspeople to Train 1-2-1 with a club or teammate who doesn’t yet know Christ. Please pray that many will take up this initiative and be bold in using three simple questions to help start conversations about Jesus.

Monday 16th November

Prayers for Elite Rugby

Give thanks for the fortnightly Pro Rugby Bible studies and for the growing community of elite rugby players. Pray for the players currently within international bubbles which can be particularly intense. Pray they can be a light and a witness to their teammates.

Tuesday 17th November

Pray for Students

Please pray that many students from across the UK and Ireland will attend the Big University Group meeting online tomorrow. Pray that they will each be inspired to stay in the lives of their sports friends and to share Jesus with them during the current restrictions.

Wednesday 18th November

Praise God for the work in Scotland

Give thanks to God for the 53 Christian sportspeople from 10 cities who joined an online Clubhouse training event in Scotland last week. Pray that they might make the most of the Train 1-2-1 resource and the Big Online Sports Quiz as opportunities to reach more sportspeople in Scotland.

Thursday 19th November

Pray for the European Webinar and Discussion

Please pray for this two-part live webinar and discussion starting tonight on the theme of 'Anxiety Management, God and the Athlete in a Covid World', led by Ricardo Andre Pires, a sports psychologist from Benfica F.C, Portugal. Pray that many competitive and elite sportspeople sign up to explore the Christian message as a result.

Friday 20th November

Pray for the Big Online Sports Quiz <https://christiansinsport.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=b5dff7e5e660179476871964d&id=507f5b23d0&e=020d4fe54e>

Pray for Dave Hampton as he speaks at tonight’s quiz and for Christian sportspeople to be bold both in inviting their sports friends to join them and in timely and appropriate follow-up conversations.

Saturday 21st November

Pray for the regional work in England

Thank God for the city team in Sheffield who meet monthly to pray for clubs and teams and think of ways of taking the Good News of Jesus to sportspeople across the city. Pray for the other city teams across England and that more teams would form in new locations.
