Across the UK, not all older people are enjoying a financially secure retirement. Increased prices, energy bills and other costs have left many of the 2.1 million older people living in poverty facing impossible financial choices this Christmas. We hear regularly from people who are missing meals, don’t turn on lights or live in cold homes just to make ends meet.
At Independent Age, we are taking action this winter so that everyone has the money they need to live well.
Pension Credit is a vital top-up that supports older people on a low income, and is a gateway - worth potentially thousands of pounds - to extra financial support like reduced Council Tax and a free TV License.
But up to 850,000 older people in the UK don’t receive Pension Credit, even though they are eligible. They might not know it exists, or believe they aren’t eligible. So we’re taking action and asking MPs up and down the country to do their bit to ensure anyone who is entitled to Pension Credit receives it.

Your MP knows your community, and how they can get the word out about Pension Credit. In a cost-of-living crisis, it’s never been more important for MPs to support older people living in financial hardship to get the income they’re entitled to.
