Sanctuary Foundation Advent Devotional Day 11
Here at Sanctuary Foundation, we are always in search of spare rooms. I know of tens of thousands of spare rooms that have been transformed into spaces of welcome for Ukrainians fleeing war. I know of thousands of others that have been used to welcome children from the care system and enable them to experience loving family life.
And still more spare rooms are needed. There are still hundreds of Afghan refugees waiting in hotels because they have been told that there is no room for them in the UK’s housing market. Many children age out of care at 18 having never been told there is no room for them in adoptive or fostering families.
The Christmas story tells us that God knows all about this problem. When Mary arrived in Bethlehem and gave birth to Jesus we are told:
“she wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.”
One day there will be enough rooms for everybody. Jesus has promised that his Father’s house has many rooms, which he is currently preparing for all who trust him.
For those of us who still have a spare room, we can offer a taste of heaven to people around us right now. Let’s encourage everyone who has a spare room to offer it to someone who needs it this Christmas.
Thank you
