A Stornoway minister is encouraging people to give more of their time and energy to help others.

Rev Tommy MacNeil, minister of Martin's Memorial Church, firmly believes that it is more of a joy to give than to receive.

His congregation has run a Giving Tree Christmas appeal since 2006 and since then they have gifted more than 2,000 presents to those most in need on the Isle of Lewis.

Mr MacNeil said: "As we find ourselves in the busyness of this time of year, why don't you and your congregation think about what can I give?

"As we give of what Christ has given to us then we too will know what it is to be really blessed."
