2nd East Kilbride Company of The Boys’ Brigade (BB) hosted an extra special breakfast event for members of East Kilbride at its ‘BIG BB Brunch’ on October 27 at the South Parish Church.

The event was one of over 80 BB community brunch events happening across Scotland as part of the organisation’s Year of Young People initiatives.

The event included a brunch consisting of hot breakfast rolls, pancakes and tea/coffee as well as a number of stalls selling a variety of items, from home baking to Christmas crafts made by the Anchor Boys. The event was well supported by the local community with Dr Lisa Cameron MP, Linda Fabiani MSP, Deputy Provost for South Lanarkshire Collette Stevenson and East Kilbride Councillor John Anderson.

Lauriston Church in Falkirk celebrated its 125th anniversary with a special service on Sunday October 28.

At the service, a time capsule, placed under the floorboards at the 100th anniversary in 1993, was opened. A presentation was made to session clerk William Bell, who was ordained an elder over 50 years ago. Mr Bell was given a waistcoat and tie in the new Church of Scotland tartan, and a member of the congregation, Jean Rutherford, made a matching preaching stole for the minister, the Rev Dr Mary Henderson, and a pulpit fall from fabric ordered through the World Mission Council.

A series of anniversary celebrations have included a concert with singers Cheryl Forbes and Gordon Cree, an anniversary dinner with entertainment by the church organist Jerry Smith and, still to come, an evening with the Unison Kinneil Brass Band from Bo'ness.

Mary Gillies has been the organist and choir leader in Tullibody St Serf's Parish Church for 45 Years. On October 28 the Rev Drew Barrie presented her with a long service certificate.

On Sunday November 4 the Rev Stuart Duff presented long service certificates to four of Elgin High Church’s elders who have been them served for 140 years. Pictured from left: Mr Duff, Fiona Oswald (30 years), Ian Shayer (50), Jennifer Morrison (30) and James Morrison (30).
