Compassion UK: Hold Out For Something Better

I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

Romans 8:18

Things don’t always work out as we would hope. There’s every chance you’ve been working on something for a long time that didn’t come together as you planned. I know the heartache of putting my all into something that didn’t seem to work. That heartache can linger long after we think we’ve gotten over it too. Despite all our good intentions, we can harbour hidden feelings of resentment toward others and even toward God.

But God sincerely promises us that he is working in and through all things for our good. He is not cruel. He has a wonderful redemptive strategy for all our circumstances, and if we allow him to work in us, we become better too. You may be in a waiting phase right now, but today just quiet yourself in trust. There will be a day when the mist will clear and you have your “something better” moment.

Reflection
If you’ve had a setback that perhaps you’re not “over” yet, take a moment over Lent to write and pray about it. Someday you will look back and see that there was something better waiting for you.

Lord, it hurts when things don’t work out. But I know that you’re still at work. I know that you have a beautiful outcome planned for this situation so please, give me your grace and patience while I wait. You are still good and I still love you. In Jesus' name. Amen.
