Compassion UK: Editing, Part One

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.

Psalm 130:23

We often focus on what we’d like to add to our lives. We pray for opportunities, relationships, and even possessions. God knows we need these things at times. But what we so often forget to do is remove things from our lives. Sometimes when I’m writing a song, I have to delete a decent, perfectly acceptable lyric to find a good lyric. That’s a bit like real life. It’s hard to let decent things go. But we have to be brave enough to really edit our lives if we want them to be good.

Does your life need to breathe a little better? Over Lent would it be good to remove certain responsibilities, commitments, or even relationships from the equation? Take a moment to pray about this today.

Lord, I want to live my best life in and for you. I’m sure there are many things I could remove from my life to make it simpler and more streamlined. Please help me to discern what I should hold on to and what I must let go of. In Jesus’ name, amen.
