Compassion UK: Seek Joy

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Joy isn’t some trivial bonus emotion. Joy is power! It gives us strength and therefore life itself. It refuels a weary traveller and helps repair a broken heart. Never underestimate the uplifting value of simple pleasures. Whether you love dogs, musicals, crafts, or superhero movies, don’t feel guilty for spending time on things that bring joy to your heart. In this world of many sorrows, don’t apologise for enjoying what’s beautiful. Keeping your joy tank full will activate you for good deeds.

Reflection
What makes you smile? Why not try and put more of those things into your day? Have you been deactivated by anything negative recently? Do you feel bad after watching news or reading certain things? It might be time to filter them out. .

Lord, help me to focus on the things that help me to be fully alive in you. I don’t want to be deactivated by despair. If there is anything in my life that needs to be removed because it’s too negative, please show me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
