Compassion UK: Failure Gives Us Space

He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.

Psalm 23:2–3 NASB

Life is very busy for most of us. It begins to feel like a circus-worthy balancing act at times. We’re spinning plates—the plates of marriage, family, friendship, work, fun, fitness, future. The trouble with having so many plates to spin is that we only have so many hands.

If we spin one plate too many, we’re likely to be faced with a couple of smashed ones. Don’t worry. Those smashed plates are often just the reminder you need that you’re doing a little too much. Some days we must stop spinning so many plates and rest.

Reflection
This Lent, do you need a break? Does something need to go? Perhaps you don’t really need to go to that party or extra gym session … or to see an extra client. Perhaps you just need a break. Take a moment to invite God into your schedule and let him help you strip it back a little.

Lord, thank you for the gift of space. Thank you that you allow me to see my own limitation and fragility so I am forced to slow down and rest in you. Today I will rest in you and await the restoration you faithfully promise. In Jesus’ name, amen
