Compassion UK: Keep An Eye On The Dashboard

Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall.

1 Corinthians 10:12 NASB

The other day I got into my friend’s car. The first thing I noticed was the pretty little light show on the dashboard—several alerts to check fluid levels and even a little “stoplight.” “Andy, your car is trying to tell you things!” “Oh yeah,” he said, “they’ve been on a while, and I guess I just don’t notice them anymore.”

The revelation hit me like a flash. Begin to ignore the little stoplights that tell you your heart needs a tune-up, and you could find yourself broken down. If you’re finding it difficult to keep on driving, there could be good reason. Perhaps you need a rest or a time of refreshment. Perhaps you need to take time to deal with a fraught relationship or to see a doctor about some aches and pains. Whatever you do, don’t ignore the warning signs, or you could find yourself stranded on the highway.

Reflection
Are there some red flags going up in your world right now? Do you have a relationship that may need some maintenance? Do you feel a little run down but tell yourself to keep going? Take today’s reading as an extra signal to stop and deal with the problem.

Lord, thank you for speaking to me. If I’ve become ignorant to a warning you’re trying to give me, please make it clear to me again. If there is something in my life that needs attention, help me to see it. I want this life of mine to run well and be taken care of in a way that pleases you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
