Compassion UK: Say Thank You

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!

Psalm 107:1 ESV

Thankfulness gives us life. When we take time to truly see and appreciate what we have, we become less stressed, more optimistic, and more joyful. Whenever I’m feeling low, I make a mental list of everything I’m thankful for—and nothing is off-limits! I express my gratitude for music, second chances, ice cream, even my dog’s soft fur. I say thank you for all the things that make my life more enjoyable because I know they are all gifts to me.

Why not come up with a little list of things you’re grateful for? Sometimes it’s hard to get started, but once you get in the flow, you heart expands with gratitude and you can’t stop. Here’s a little example:

Lord, I’m grateful for my husband and for my parents, who are all well. I’m grateful for my home, my health, and my guitar. I’m grateful for the many opportunities you’ve given me. Thank you for my gifts and talents. Thank you for sunsets and breakfasts. I’m so very, very blessed.

Reflection
Write down a messy list of all the things you’re thankful for. You’re bound to find it uplifting.

Lord, there is so much that I can thank you for today, too many things even to count. But I pray that as I begin to list these things, my heart will overflow with joy in you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
