Compassion UK: Have Fun On The Journey

So I recommend having fun, because there is nothing better for people in this world than to eat, drink, and enjoy life. That way they will experience some happiness along with all the hard work God gives them under the sun.

Ecclesiastes 8:15 NLT

Joel and I spend a good portion of our year on the road. It can become quite repetitive, so we’ve had to learn to amuse ourselves. Last year we started collecting inexpensive treasures at services stations. We then developed this into a game. What was the most random and amusing product we could find? It was a completely pointless exercise except for one small fact: we had fun.

All of life can be tiring and tedious. So do what you can to make it fun! Enjoy the moment. Enjoy the project, the job, the colleagues. Enjoy the relationship you’re in, the car journey, the song that’s on radio, the food in front of you. Enjoy the roof you’re under even if it’s driving you crazy. If you can, find a way to enjoy even your broken heart. It won’t be broken forever. These things are God’s gift to you right now. You might not have them long. He’s working through them.

Reflection
How can you make something mundane more fun today? God wants you to enjoy the journey! Accept the challenge today to play your way through the more boring tasks and create a little joy in the tedious moments.

Lord, thanks for the little things that bring me joy. Help me to be resourceful when it comes to fun! You have given me full permission to enjoy every aspect of life. Thank you for this great gift. In Jesus’ name, amen.
