Compassion UK: Ask For Help

For the body is not one member, but many.

1 Corinthians 12:14 NASB

We all have days where that one extra problem seems to tip the balance and make our situation unmanageable. We can ask God to be our supernatural strength. But God has provided us with hands and feet so we can minister to and assist one another.

When I first got married, the hardest adjustment for me was learning to share the load of life with my husband. I was used to doing shopping, cleaning, and business errands all by myself. But I quickly learned that not only was Joel able to help; he was also very willing.

In fact, he expected to help, and I was denying him the joy by continuing to do my own thing. Though it can be difficult at first, we must regularly practice the art of asking for help. Not only may it be necessary for us complete the task at hand, but God may have a greater purpose in the teamwork.

Reflection
Do you need to engage the help of a friend? Can a member of your family pick up a chore or two? Don’t feel bad for sharing the load.

Lord, thank you for the people in my life. Help me to trust others in the sharing of responsibilities. If I don’t have those people in my life right now, please help me to find them. Help me to find a community where I am loved and embraced, and where others will take delight in coming to my rescue as I would for them. In Jesus’ name, amen.
