Compassion UK: One Day At A Time

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Matthew 6:34

Trying to live our whole lives in one day can become very stressful indeed. It’s not uncommon for me to make a mental list of everything I’d like to fix in life while I’m still taking my morning shower! I take my itinerary and my shopping list to God, firing off everything I need in a frenzied prayer. Then I make a checklist of everything in the house that needs fixing. Then I make a mental list of everything I’d like to achieve in my life before I turn forty. This is all before I’ve left the house or even fed the dog! It can be overwhelming and exhausting to think this way.

Reflection
There are many things you need to tackle over the rest of the year. You have a lot of giving and a lot of living to do, but you don’t have to do it all today! Instead of being overambitious, simply resign yourself to getting a handful of things done. Don’t forget to include breathing space over this Lent season.

Lord, give me the strength for today. Just for today. Help me to achieve all that I’m meant to achieve in you and to let go of things I don’t have capacity for. Have your way in me today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
