Church of Scotland Guild September E-News

Annual Gathering Live!

If it’s September, it must mean that the Annual Gathering is just around the corner! And it is….this Saturday! I am really looking forward to this splendid day of celebration the singing, the speakers and meeting friends old and new.

But…where has the summer gone? It seems no time since June, when I was making lists and ticking boxes as I prepared to lead the Guild delegation to Zambia and Malawi, which turned out to be a perspective-changing, even life-changing experience for me!

Visits to our project partners in Lusaka, Zambia opened my eyes to the opportunities being taken up by the young mums in the ‘Journeying Together’ project; the girls have such potential, as demonstrated by the presentations they made for us. What we give to the project is being well used to their advantage.

The day spent with young farmers benefitting from the solar pumps through our project partner, Malawi Fruits was really fascinating to see how the lives of farmers and their families are being changed for the better was amazing. There is such hope for the future here!

New ‘twinnings’ between Guilds Together groups in Scotland and Malawi Guilds are being explored, and it was so good to be in at the start of these new relationships. Please pray that they will go from strength to strength we have much to learn from one another.

And finally, Guild Week, immediately after the Annual Gathering. However you choose to celebrate this special week in the life of our great movement, may it be a blessing to you and to all those you are reaching out to, in your congregations and communities.

See you in Dundee!

Marian Macintyre

National Convener

In April we joined forces with the Moderator, The Girls Brigade and The Boys Brigade for The Big Footprint.

Walking Together

We walked together, talked together and shared in food and fellowship. All ages coming together in a very visual way.

Events took place across Scotland and we hope that these examples of working together will continue.

Heart and Soul

The Guild was well represented at Heart and Soul in May. It was a day filled with fun allowing us to showcase the work of the Guild to the wider church and beyond.

It was good to welcome the Moderator and the Lord High Commissioner over the day.

Nithsdale supports work in Malawi

The money raised at a recent Big Sing in Dumfries is being used to help young girls stay at school. The money will provide the girls with solar lamps, enabling them to study into the evening. Mission Partner Gary Brough is overseeing the work.
