From the Outreach Group Convener

As we journey through this time of Lent, reflecting on Christ’s journey towards the Cross and the salvation of all mankind, as His disciples; ‘Whose we are and Whom we Serve’ in today’s landscape, we can but give thanks, for all that we have received through His hand.

And in doing so, go forth, and serve, where we can, in His service.

In just a few weeks now we will reach the end of our three year Strategy ‘Be Bold Be Strong’, what memories we have all gathered throughout this time, in shared fellowship with each other throughout the land. Journeying through; going in Peace, Joy and Love. We also give thanks for the journey shared with each of our Project Partners during this time.

The Outreach Group met last year to go through the new projects who had applied to become partners with the Guild during the next 3 year Strategy: One Journey Many Roads. Exciting times ahead, as in just a few weeks we will be unveiling the new Projects Partners who were eventually chosen to journey with the Guild through our new 3yr Strategy ‘One Journey Many Roads’.

Over the past weeks I have experienced some personal ‘scary journey’s’ trying to get to various Guild events. Some, I have managed and some not!

In all journeys’ undertaken keep close the words found at: Deuteronomy 31: 6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

"As we go from ‘Be Bold Be Strong’ to ‘One Journey, Many roads." May God remain in each of us.

Outreach Convener

The Forgotten War: Our Lives in South Sudan

The World Mission Council of the Church of Scotland are holding a special event hear from our partners in South Sudan. South Sudan is the newest nation on earth, but sadly since December 2013 has been gripped by civil war. 4 million people, a third of the population, have fled war, famine and disease and millions more are facing starvation.

The Forgotten War: Our Lives in South Sudan will give you the opporunity to hear from members of our partner church in South Sudan who will share a little about what it is like for them to live there. You are invited to join them to hear their stories.

This will take place on 19 March from 11.30 12.30 at St Andrew’s and St George’s West, Edinburgh. Click here <http://theguild.cmail19.com/t/t-l-uydudul-dujtnsj-f/> for more information.

Meet your MSP

Edinburgh Presbyterial Council were delighted to welcome Ruth Davidson MSP to their recent meeting.

Ruth was able to share something of her life growing up in the Church of Scotland as well as the challenges and opportunities of life as an MSP and a party leader.

Everyone enjoyed the evening and would encourage other Guilds and Presbytial Councils to get in touch with their MSP's and invite them along to a meeting.

Convener's Challenge

By now your Guild will have information about this years’ Convener’s challenge that involves each Presbyterial Council submitting a cushion front designed by people in their Council area.

These will then be judged and the winner announced at the Annual Gathering.

If you need more information then please contact your Council convener who has all the details.

We hope that all Councils will be able to participate.

Just for Fun

The "Just for Fun" question for February was:

What event will take place in the "City of Discthery" later this year?

The Annual Gathering of course!

Due to snow closing the office we will announce the winner next month.

This month's question is:

Who is the new secretary of the Mission and Discipleship Council

Answers to Guild office by 30 March

A prayer for Lent

Lord may Lent be a time of inward searching

that makes me more aware of those around me

and makes me able to look with

compassion at the needs of the world.
