Fairtrade Fortnight 2018:Come On In

When: Monday 26 February - Sunday 11 March 2018

Fairtrade Fortnight is soon approaching with the theme of 'Come On In'. The theme aims to welcome more people to come on in to Fairtrade and stand with hard-working producers to close the door on exploitation. By inviting others to 'Come on in to Fairtrade' you can help open doors to Fairtrade for more producers fighting for a fairer deal.

During the fortnight, we will be visited by Bernard Kaunda (Acting Chief Executive) and Christopher Gondwe (Quality and Processing Executive) from Mzuzu Coffee in Malawi. Mzuzu is a coffee planters co-operative which champions the economic empowerment of their smallholder coffee growers. You can find more information about Mzuzu here. <https://scottishfairtradeforum.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=8e244cea8abeb68734b6b4d00&id=e0b11ced95&e=e0dcc527ce>

Engage with your MSP on Fair Trade!

During Fairtrade Fortnight the Cross Party Group on Fair Trade will be holding an event for MSPs in the Scottish Parliament where they will have the opportunity to meet our visiting representatives from Mzuzu Coffee. The event will take place on the 7th March in Committee Room 2 from 1pm - 2.15pm.

Also as part of Fairtrade Fortnight, Colin Smyth MSP, has lodged a motion <https://scottishfairtradeforum.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=8e244cea8abeb68734b6b4d00&id=0b91f01fff&e=e0dcc527ce> in the Scottish Parliament to highlight the work being done across Scotland as part of the Fortnight.

It would be great to get as many MSPs signing the motion and attending our drop-in session at the Scottish Parliament as possible!

To help encourage support for this it would be great if you could write to your MSP and ask them to:

1) Sign the motion <https://scottishfairtradeforum.us1.list-manage.com/track/click?u=8e244cea8abeb68734b6b4d00&id=91b6f0b556&e=e0dcc527ce>

2) Drop in to our event at the Scottish Parliament.

International Festival of Fair Trade Walks

Walking has long been used as a campaigning method for Fair Trade. This Festival aims to celebrate, consolidate and build upon the experiences of past and present Fair Trade walks from all over the world.

The Festival encourages involvement in the campaign for better wages and safer working conditions for people who grow our food and produce products due to injustices in the international trading system.

Walks can be organised on any day throughout the year. It is encouraged that your walk starts, finishes or stops buy a Fair Trade location to raise awareness for the cause. Your walk could be routed between Fairtrade towns, cafes, schools, businesses or community centres.

If you any walks planned we would love to add it to our list to get others involved.
