Day 20 - Christmas greeting from Bangladesh!

Day 20: Christmas greeting from Bangladesh!

Today, one of our partners in Bangladesh, LAMB Hospital, tells us a bit about celebrating Christmas as a minority group.

'In Bangladesh, Christmas is commonly referred to as "Bara Din" (Big Day). Although Christianity is a minority religion in the country, Bara Din is still a national holiday. During the day Christians greet each other by saying "Shubho Bara Din" which means "Greetings of the Great Day".

'In rural villages some people cut down banana trees and then replant them in pairs along the paths that lead from their homes to the church. The leaves of the trees are bent to form an arch. They then set fire to the branches to illuminate their way to the church! Churches can host meetings that take the whole day, and take in meals and celebrating as one big community.'

Pray for brothers and sisters who are part of vulnerable Christian minorities. Pray for discrimination to cease and for protection from violence.
